One Day Workshop by David Pettett

Workshop Outline

David’s workshop will cover the following four areas:

A. The church & it’s changing place in society

B. What is the mission of the Church & does this have any relevance in today’s society

C. A biblical and historical overview of chaplaincy & pastoral care

D. The Chaplain and pastoral carer in the public sphere- pioneering ministry

This workshop seeks to equip those attending with skills to evaluate and develop opportunities for ministry beyond the church by:

1. Developing sound biblical and theological rationale for engaging in chaplaincy and spiritual care practice beyond the church

2. Laying foundations for assessing and identifying opportunities to extend the mission of the church

3.Identifying and developing good practice in ministries which extend the mission of the church

Your Presenter

David Pettett is an Anglican minister. He has ministered in inner city, suburban and NSW South Coast parishes. David has served with the Overseas Missionary Fellowship, church planting in Japan. He has been a Chaplain in the Royal Australian Navy, in hospitals and in prisons. David then managed prison and hospital chaplaincy in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. He has a Th.L. and Th.Schol. from the Australian College of Theology, an M.A. in pastoral care and counselling from the Sydney College of Divinity, a Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Supervision from St. Marks in Canberra and a Ph.D. in colonial history from Macquarie University. David demonstrates his continuing passion for pastoral care of clergy and people having taught pastoral care at Moore Theological College, Sydney, by moderating parish and pastoral courses for the Australian College of Theology and by giving Pastoral Supervision to clergy and other church workers. David is currently undertaking an Intentional Locum in the Anglican Parish of Keppel in Queensland.
